It is widely applied in the production of cobalt-based pigments and invisible inks, as well as in the decoration of stoneware and porcelain. The compound is also used in catalyst preparation, vitamin B12 supplement manufacturing, and as an additive in batteries.
This product can be readily reduced to obtain high-purity metallic cobalt, making it an important raw material for the electronics and related industries. It can be loaded onto various catalyst supports for use in Fischer–Tropsch catalysis. In addition, it serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of benzimidazole and benzothiazole derivatives, which exhibit promising antiviral activity against viruses such as HIV and HCMV-1.
